East End Pediatrics Policy for Vaccination

We at East End Pediatrics believe that all children need to be appropriately immunized for their own health and safety as well as the health and safety of other children in the community. We very strongly recommend using the standard immunization schedule of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP). However, we also respect the parents’ right to make individual decisions for the care of their child, and if parents feel strongly that they do not wish to adhere to the recommended immunization schedule, we are willing, within reason, to work with them to accomplish the goal of fully immunizing their child.

Because of the complexity of the standard vaccination schedule, the direct supervision by a physician is required when there is a deviation from it. Patients whose parents choose to customize the standard recommended vaccine schedule will no longer be offered nurse visits for shots. They will need additional scheduled visits with the doctor to adjust and outline their schedule of immunizations. These visits will be considered extra check-ups for anticipatory guidance and as such are a non-covered service and will be the patient’s responsibility for billing purposes. Payment will be expected at the time of service and cannot be billed to the patient’s insurance company.

Once a schedule is decided upon, the doctor may permit nurse visits for the next series of shots. If the patient fails to keep any of these nurse visits, all subsequent visits will be with the doctor to adjust the vaccine schedule, again at the family’s own expense.

For the protection of other patients and due to significant philosophical differences, children with marked delays in vaccination or no vaccinations will no longer be welcome to join this practice. Those who have been seen here in the past will be instructed to either complete their vaccinations or transfer to another practice. We will assist them in finding a practitioner with whom they will be more compatible and will forward the children’s records there.
